Gaye Ann Amick, CPT is a professionally trained and certified dog trainer, and canine behavior modification consultant. She has been involved with dogs for over forty five years and is the founder of Northern Sky Obedience Academy.
Gaye has perfected her dog training skills through years of personal experience and studying canine evolution, behavior and learning theory. She is a graduate
of the Ohio State Board of Education approved, National K-9 Learning Center's Master Trainer Program.
Ms. Amick developed Northern Michigan's first Train the Trainer Apprentice Program in 2004. She created and designed her apprentice program to give those interested in becoming professional dog trainers a solid foundation to pursue their dreams. The students Gaye has taught went on to open their own businesses locally and out of the area. She has been a mentor for The Animal Behavior College since 2005. Northern Sky Obedience Academy's Psychiatric Service Dog program was developed by Gaye in 2010.
Gaye's professional career reached an all-time high when a New York based talent agency requested she provide a trained dog for a motion picture being filmed in the Detroit Metro area.
Gaye Amick spent three years as a member of the board of directors for the Charlevoix Area Humane Society. She has active memberships within several top professional dog trainer organizations including; The International Association of Canine Professionals, The International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, The Association of Pet Dog Trainers, The National K-9 Dog Trainers Association and The Psychiatric Service Dog Society.
Ms. Amick is consistently recommended by veterinarians, groomers, boarding kennels, pet stores, dog walkers, pet sitters, shelters, rescue groups, dog trainers from across the USA, and thousands of satisfied clients. Gaye is knowledgeable in a variety of training methods, including, but not limited to: Clicker Training, Behavioral Adjustment Training, The Michael Ellis Training System, Obedience without Conflict, Classic and Operant Conditioning, Training with Drive, Constructional Aggression Treatment, and Kayce Cover's cutting-edge Perception Modification.
Gaye is professionally trained and certified in the following areas; Canine First Aid, Basic and Advanced Obedience, Off Leash Training, Puppy Development, Breed Identification, Utility Training, Soft Mouth Retrieval, Tracking, Personal Protection, Behavior Modification and Scent Detection.
Gaye knows dog training is a special step by step process and not one to be completed using dominance, force, intimidation tactics or abusive techniques. She believes training is built on understanding and respect for the dog.
